The National Association of Home Builders in Washington, D.C. has raised six million dollars to provide financial housing assistance to families impacted by the Sept. 11 disaster.
The aid will be distributed to those who suffered the death of a family member or the loss of employment in a business located south of Canal St. in Manhattan.
Under the direction of treasurer Philip LaRocque, The New York State Builders Association Research and Education Foundation has been designated as the disbursing agency for grant applications.
An initial allocation of $630,000 has been made to the Associated Builders and Owners of Greater New York. Additional funds will be allocated to the ABO as $4 million in National Pledges is received.
"Our association, as the New York City chapter of the State and National Builders Associations, has set up a 24/7 telephone number to receive direct inquires from interested applicants. That number is (212) 385-4949," said Jerome Belson, president of the ABO. "We applaud our state and national organizations for their speedy and meaningful action to help ease the pain and suffering relating to the World Trade Center tragedy."
